I redone it a few weeks ago with changing out the substrate from sand to gravel
I took out all the black diamond blasting sand & replaced it with river rock &
pea gravel & crush coral, the reason for changing the substrate out was the sand
wasn't letting the left over food & waste get down to the roots of the plants.
The plants feed from the food & waste in the tank to grow & that's why I decided
to change the substrate where it can work down to the roots, so since I did that
the plants look a lot better & the water is a lot cleaner, & I've added a few new
fish as well & getting more in a few weeks, but what I have now is 3 new mollies.
What new fish I'm getting is rainbow shiners, & they will be with what zebra
danio's I have & 3Cory catfish & 3 nerite snails that keeps the floor & walls clean
& I also took the canister filter off & replaced it with 2-100 gph hang on backs
Filters, & they have been a big help on keeping the water moving & circulated.
As for keeping the tank clean & fish safe, I clean the filters every other week
& vacuum once a month, being the fish are small there's not a lot of waste to
really worry about fouling the water & what waste that accumulates isn't heavy.
I do top off the tank every other week if it needs it, I don't chase the water levels
as in testing the water for nitrates & so forth, the main thing I have the aquarium
for is to grow plant's to sell, the fish are just for the waste they produce to help feed
the plants, I also use easy green & root capsules, & that's an extra boost for them.
I'm hoping that the plant's will get big enough to sell off the extra plant's they will
produce so I can keep the main mother plant's, the plant's I have going right now
is mostly stem plant's, Java Ferns, Octopus plant's, Amazon Swords, twain lilies
Jungle Val, Bacopa, all my plant's will produce extra plant's & they will be sellers.
the black diamond blasting sand, & what it looks like now is a 100 X's better, I'll
get a photo of what it looks like now after the upgrade I've done with it, looks 👍It has that more natural look to it & the fish I have love the high flow the hob's
give that gives more oxygen to the plant's & it is all coming together FINALLY
It's been a up hill climb trying to get this going, & now I have it like I need it. ✋hi-5
